Arkansas indie-folk artist Justin Peter Kinkel-Schuster has made a powerful new record in ‘Take Heart, Take Care’ (Big Legal Mess), his first written as a sober songwriter, and critics and bloggers are taking notice as his tour continues.
Here’s a bit of what we’re reading:
“Arresting.” – American Songwriter
“Songs that have the ability to absolutely gut you… Eloquently presents an open mind and, of course, an open heart… The poeticism of a JPKS song can leave you dumbfounded, listening back more closely to make out all the intricacies in his language. The way he weaves words together is awe-inspiring.” – No Depression
“Country-tinged.” – Brooklyn Vegan
“Sun-baked folk with taut lyricism.” – Under the Radar
“Americana-influenced indie-rock comes carefully constructed, but only to make space for that heart to come through.” – Dusted
“Powerfully alternates from fingerpicked acoustic guitar to hails of overdrive.” – Glide Mag
“With ‘Take Heart, Take Care,’ his just-released solo album, the singer-songwriter puts his honeyed Arkansas twang in front of plangeant electric guitar and enough melodic underpinning to help his switchblade couplets soar.” – Riverfront Times (St. Louis, MO)
“The album is a beautiful, honest indie folk portrait that is both sonically pristine and edgy.” – Connect Savannah
“Commanding vocals and beat-up heart.” – New Commute
“Stunning.” – One Chord to Another
“Uplifting.” – Alt Revue
